Prepare your home for sale

If you are thinking of selling your home then read our handy tips and advice on how to make it as stress-free  as possible.

Here’s a short video that runs through getting your home ready for sale. It’s American but the principles are exactly the same.

Get Your Home Ready for Market
When your potential buyer sees your home for the first time, how it is presented will create an important first impression. Things to do to make sure this is as good as possible:

tidy the garden front and back
paint window sills and the front door
make sure the house number or name is visible

People might also take a look through your front window before arranging a formal viewing so:

Make sure rooms inside are kept tidy at all times. You never know when you might get a viewing at short notice.

De-clutter – you want to make your home look as spacious as possible so consider :

putting some of your stuff in storage
keep everywhere tidy and clean
neutralise animal smells
get someone to take the kids and pets out during viewings

Kitchen – If your kitchen is a bit old and tired looking consider replacing kitchen cupboard doors and drawer fronts.

Bathrooms – An old looking  bathroom suites can also let a property down.  You’d be surprised what difference simply installing new taps or new shower screen/curtain can have. Also putting out  clean, white, fluffy towels can also change the look.

Paint – consider going round the house giving it a fresh coat of paint before putting it on the market.

Room Use – Think about how you are using each room and show them off to their best potential – for example a double bedroom has more appeal and value than a single, and a single bedroom has more appeal and value than an office or study.

Photos – Your  viewers need to imagine themselves living in your home so if it crammed full of family photos think about taking some out and keeping just a few on show.

Clean –  keep your home clean, dust and tidy everywhere regularly and particularly before a viewing. Open windows to let fresh air in.
